Abstract

1432415 Refrigerating SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 15 May 1973 22972/73 Heading F4H A method of refrigerating a load 11 comprises the steps of dividing the gas from the compressor into a main stream 7 and a recycle stream 8; passing the main stream 7 through a cooling heat exchanger 9 to liquefy it, expanding and evaporating the main stream at the load 11, and passing the resultant gas 12 to the compressor; while expanding the recycle stream 8 in an expansion valve 13 and returning the stream to the suction line of the compressor. Portions of the recycle stream 22 and the main stream 19 are branched off, expanded at 23, 20 respectively and intermixed at 30. The gas/liquid mixture is then passed through an atomization nozzle 33 and is injected into the expanded recycle stream. The gas of the recycle stream is expanded in a control valve 13 which is set by a controller which co-operates with a flow meter 17 in the suction line of the compressor, the flow meter measuring the total flow of gas to the compressor. The valves 20, 23 are set by a controller which co-operates with a meter 24 in the suction line, the meter measuring the degree of superheating of the gas in the said line. The refrigerant may be propane gas.
