1432159 Finishing yarns; fluid twisters E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 9 July 1973 [11 July 1972] 32616/73 Headings DID and D1F In fluid jet apparatus for processing e.g. bulking, convoluting, crimping, forwarding, heating, interlacing, relaxing or twisting, yarn, a cap member 1, maintained at surface 8 in sliding contact against a bearing surface 9 of a base member or block 2 by a spring 11 operating between member I and a retainer 12, is moved by a handle 16 into a position wherein a yarn passage or groove 3 is beyond the edge 10 and thus open for "string-up", Fig. 2 (not shown). When the cap is released, it is returned to its operating position and there maintained by a spring 14 acting between member 1 and an adjustably located retaining screw 15. In the operating position, the groove 3 is closed and yarn passes therethrough with high velocity fluid supplied through fluid connection 7, conduit 6, into plenum chamber 5 thence through a passage formed by a groove 4. As shown in Fig. 4, the bearing face 9 is curved and the member 1 is rotated within the block 2 by means of a handle 17 to open the groove 3 for string-up, with the groove and plenum chamber 5 disconnected from the fluid supply. The fluid passage may intersect the groove 3 tangentially for twisting the yarn.
