Abstract
1442257 Interlacing yarns ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP 27 Feb 1974 [4 April 1973] 9013/74 Heading D1F A process of entangling filaments of a multifilament yarn e.g. textured, 1300 denier carpet yarn, comprises passing such yarn through a passageway (at a speed of 500-8000 feet per minute and tension of 0.03-0.2 grams per denier) wherein a highly turbulent flow of fluid (e.g. air, steam, nitrogen) is created by directing at least three jets of fluid at the yarn from different directions, all in the same plane normal to the path of the yarn, through equidistantly spaced orifices in the passageway. At least two of the jets are directed so that their extended centrelines (or axes of the fluid yet debouching therefrom) are offset in rotationally opposite directions from the radius of a circle of the effective diameter of the plane in the passageway and the intersections of all the (extended) centrelines form a polygon having a side which is nearer to the centre of the circle of effective diameter of the plane than are all the apices thereof. The nearest polygon side to the centre is longer than 0.1% but shorter than 7.5% of the effective diameter and is at a distance greater than 0.1% but less than 5.0% of the effective diameter from the centre of the circle thereof. Air may be supplied at a pressure of 30-90 p.s.i.g. and the consumption thereof is only up to 10 standard cubic feet per minute. A double V-shaped guide may constrain the yarn near one or both ends of the passageway.
