Abstract
1430876 Developing electrostatic latent images XEROX CORP 16 Jan 1974 [17 Jan 1973 30 March 1973] 01999/74 Heading G2H When an electrostatic latent image on drum 10 is developed with a carrier particle/toner particle mix, toner particles which have an insufficient electrostatic charge, or are charged to the wrong polarity, are removed from the developer by being caused to cling to roller 52 to prevent them from adhering to the background areas of the latent image. Two rollers may operate together, one removing particles of insufficient charge and the other particles of wrong polarity, or the roller may be divided into sections. The roller may act in conjunction with a development electrode, or may act as a development electrode. Where a sectional roller is used to remove both kinds of undesired particles, and also to act as a development electrode, it is rotated at such a rate that its average potential acts in development. Removal may take place in both cascade and magnetic development apparatus.
