Abstract

1430598 Installing dormer windows E L HANNA 22 Oct 1973 [11 Jan 1973] 1438/73 Heading E1W A dormer window is formed in an opening, having a horizontal lower edge, in a sloping roof by fixing a frame 11, 12 into the opening, fixing to the frame, save at the part along the horizontal lower edge a hood shaped cover 13, such that the front edge 14 lies in a vertical plane with the horizontal lower edge and fixing a window frame 17 into this opening. The dormer window may be rectangular in which case the hood is formed as a rectangular channel (not shown). The cover may be formed of resin impregnated glass fibres and incorporate a flashing 16. The frame 11, 12 may be of laminated wood. The cover 13 may incorporate heat insulating material and is provided at its front edge 14 with wooden blocks (not shown) to which the frame 17 may be secured.
