Abstract
1430571 Laying reinforced paving A SCHWARZ 14 March 1973 [16 Feb 1972] 7142/72 Heading E1G In a road laying method a steel reinforcing mat 16 for a concrete or asphalt road surfacing 21 is supported above a sand or gravel base 15 by parallel kerb and central strips 13, 10 preferably of precast or extruded-insitu concrete which are laid on the base 15 and which are provided with mat-support means such as continuous or discontinuous shoulders 14, 14A, the strips 13, 10 forming rails for a paving machine. The flat or rounded top surface 18 of the central strip 10 may incorporate reflective beads 12 and/or metallic chips for electronic guidance of vehicles or blind pedestrians. The reflective surface 18 may have spaced V-notches to provide intermittent light flashes, such notches being temporarily filled when the strips act as rails. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), for bridge decks the kerb and central strips have further shoulders (20) below the shoulders (14, 14A) to support either precast slabs or shuttering which are positioned before the use of the paving machine.
