Abstract

1429647 Polyamide yarn package LMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 14 June 1973 [16 June 1972] 28298/72 Heading B8M [Also in Divisions D1-D2] In a package of draw bulked, i.e. drawn and bulked without intermediate wind-up, synthetic polyamide yarn, the yarn possesses substantially constant retraction, i.e. shrinkage that occurs in yarn under compressive forces that exist within wound yarn packages, throughout its wound length. The substantially constant retraction is achieved by winding the yarn throughout the winding period under conditions of gradually changing wind-on tension according to a programme including at least two tension maxima, in which the tension is increased from the start of the period to a first maximum, decreased to a minimum, increased again to a second maximum lower than the first and then decreased again. The change in balloon tension according to the desired programme, and the change in spindle speed necessary to achieve the required balloon tension, are preferably brought about by suitably profiled cams. The winding is preferably done on a ring and traveller assembly.
