Abstract
1429546 Valves M LEISENBERG 26 Oct 1973 [8 Nov 1972] 50026/73 Heading F2V [Also in Division F4] An electromagnetically operated valve, Fig. 2, forming a pulse generator for feeding cooling water in bursts to a tunnel furnace comprises a coil 42 acting on an armature 43. When the coil is not energized, a spring 48 urges a head 44 on the armature against the housing to close the outlet. Passages 47 for the cooling water ensure the rapid closing of the valve when the coil 42 is de-energized. A valve 29, Fig. 3, connected to the outlet of the pulse generator has a plunger 53 moving in a cylinder 52 against spring 54. A tapered spigot 56 projects into the outlet 55, the face of the plunger 53 engaging the face of the cylinder at 62 to close the valve. By adjusting the set screw 60, the flow through the valve for a given water supply pressure is controlled.
