Abstract
1306901 Valves GENERAL MOTORS CORP 6 May 1971 [25 May 1970 (2)] 13406/71 Heading F2V [Also in Divisions F1 and G1] A valve element 46<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 4, or 112, Fig. 5, controlling air flow into an I.C. engine induction passage is moved by a body of thermosensitive material 74<SP>1</SP> or 132 to reduce the air flow when the material is heated by an electric heating element 84<SP>1</SP> or 142, e.g. a disc of sintered barium titanate. The valve element 46<SP>1</SP> moves against the force of the spring 501 until it abuts the seat 421. Further expansion of the material 74<SP>1</SP> results in compression of the spring 62<SP>1</SP>. The valve element 112 has a contoured opening 114 co-operating with an outlet port 108 and is moved against the force of the spring 122. The spring 116 biases the valve element 112 against the wall 110 defining the port 108.
