Abstract
1373403 IC engine valve gear ROBERT' BOSCH GmbH 15 Oct 1971 [19 Oct 1970] 48011/71 Addition to 1294217 Heading F1B [Also in Division F2] A system to control I.C. engine inlet and exhaust valves has a working piston 9 acting on the stem 3 of an inlet valve 2 to open the valve intermittently against closure spring 6 and a solenoid valve 8 to control the intermittent supply of fluid to operate the working piston, adjusting means responsive to a thermostatic element controlling the inlet valve lift so that it opens more when the engine is cold than when it is hot. The adjusting means also responds to engine speed and load and to accelerator and brake pedal positions and the pressure in the fluid. The adjusting means comprises a device 37 which may be a hydraulic piston or electric motor controlled by device 38 which comprises a regulator (38R) and a transducer (38F) in a feedback circuit to the regulator, Fig. 2 (not shown). The regulator may be an amplifier whose output controls pump 14 in response to the output of a device responsive to the position of accelerator pedal 40 and the output of temperature responsive adjusting device 46.
