Abstract

1428921 Pipe couplings T EKMAN 8 Feb 1974 [8 Feb 1973] 05869/74 Heading F2G A swivel coupling has an axially fixed sealing ring 14, which is compressed by pipeline pressure and an axially movable sealing ring 16. If pressure is suddenly applied when surfaces 11 and 12 are not in contact with one another, the resulting leakage displaces ring 16 to compress spring (19). The displacement of ring 16 prevents it from being deformed, by axial pressure, to jam the parts 1 and (5) together. Rings 14 and 21 may be of polyacetal or polyamide and ring 16 of silicone rubber or elastomeric polyurethane.
