Abstract
883,498. Joint-making packing. J.R.H. PRODUCTS & CO. Ltd. June 16, 1960 [July 8, 1959; Jan. 5, 1960], Nos. 23475/59 and 349/60. Class 122 (3). [Also in Group XXVIII] A packing ring comprises a ring 16 of synthetic plastic material, such as a polyamide or polytetrafluoroethylene, having an approximately U cross-section with the limbs directed radially inward of the ring, a plurality of arcuate shoes 19, 20, 21, 22 of wedge crosssection seating in the limbs of the ring, and spring means 28 urging the limbs apart. The packing ring is shown applied to a pipe-joint which comprises two relatively-rotatable pipe ends 10, 14 drawn together by a nut 35 which contacts a bearing and thrust ring 36 made of bronze and synthetic plastic. The pressure of fluid in the pipe also urges the limbs of the ring apart.
