Abstract

1427403 Latticework masts RICHIER 16 May 1973 [16 May 1972] 23354/73 Heading E1K [Also in Division F2] The sections of a sectional mast having one or more vertical components 1-4 are connected to each other by joints which for each pair of end-to-end components 1, 1' &c comprise an abutment face formed by a plate 10 (shown in Fig. 1 only in connection with component 3), ribs 8, 9 formed externally on the lower component 1 and arranged to project beyond the abutment face and to fit inside corresponding ribs 8' 9' (Fig. 5) on the upper component 1', which also project beyond the corresponding abutment edge of the latter so that the ribs 8, 8' and 9, 9' overlap, and apertured members on the components through which bolts may be passed to secure the components together externally of the abutment face. In the embodiment of Figs. 1 and 5 the apertured members are in the form of yokes formed at their ends with bosses 6, (7) and 6', 7', and each of the components 1, 1' is composed of two angle girders placed with the extremities of their flanges in contact, the yoke at the end or ends to be connected being fitted in slots in the flanges of one of the girders, after which the contacting flanges are welded together. In the embodiment of Fig. 9, components 1, 1' are of rectangular section and the yokes are replaced by blocks (15, 16), 15', 16' which are welded between the ribs 8, 9, 8', 9' and strengthening ribs (17, 18), 17', 18'. Each mast section preferably consists of the four components 1-4 and diagonal braces 11 secured between plates 13 welded to diagonal edges of the ribs 8, and V plates welded to an adjacent component, the securing of the braces also being by welding. In a modification, Fig. 14, each component is formed into a sub-structure by welding to each of two sides an assembly of diagonal braces 11a and a cross brace 12 which converge towards a connection plate to which the other ends of these braces are welded, the substructures then being secured together to form a mast section by bolts passed through mating apertures in the pairs of connection plates denoted by A. The assembly of diagonal and cross braces may be welded to one side only of each component and extend completely across the space between two adjacent components, as shown, or alternatively may extend half way across the space to meet an adjacent assembly (Fig. 10 not shown).
