Abstract
1427260 Extruded pipe coating MANNESMANN AG 11 June 1973 27746/73 Heading B5A [Also in Division F2] A steel pipe having its internal wall coated with bitumen, e.g. of 1 to 2 mm. thickness, is provided with an anti-corrosion exterior extruded tubular sheath of polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride, adhered by an extruded coating of ethylene copolymer, e.g. acryl-ethylene polymer, in the interior of the sheath, and a priming on the pipe exterior comprising a stoichiometric mixture of bisphenol/polyamino amide epoxy resin. Immediately prior to, or after, coating with the bitumen and epoxy, the pipe is heated to 70 to 90 C., e.g. 80 C., preferably by induction, and passed through an extruder die from which the polyethylene and co-polymer are extruded as outer and inner layers of a tube, which is drawn on to the pipe by the greater speed of advance of the pipe through the die. The sheathed pipe is cooled to room temperature during not more than three minutes. The epoxy resin coating comprises 50 g./m.<SP>2</SP> of pipe surface, and is of a thickness of at most 0À1 mm., and preferably less than the average roughness depth of the pipe surface.
