Abstract

1426823 Door stays BLOXWICH LOCK & STAMPING CO Ltd 22 May 1974 [25 May 1973] 25271/73 Heading E2F A stay mechanism particularly suitable for automobile doors, comprises a pivotally mounted stay arm 1 a fixed bracket 5, a bearing roller 10 rotatably mounted on the bracket, a pressure roller 12 rotatably mounted on a lever 15 which is pivoted to the bracket at 16, and a compression spring 18 which acts on the lever 15 to urge the rollers together so that recesses 22 on the arm may be engaged by one of the rollers as the arm 1 slides between the rollers. In the embodiment shown the arm 1 is formed from sheet metal as is the bracket 5 and the lever 15; the roller 10 being mounted between double flanges 8, 9 and the roller 12 extending between double flanges 14. In a modified form of the stay mechanism (Figs. 3, 4 not shown) the bracket and lever are formed with single flanges only. Preferably the line of action of the spring 18 is further away from lever pivot 16 than is the axis of roller 12 to provide a mechanical advantage greater than unity. For Figures see next column
