1426427 Kettles HOOVER Ltd 14 March 1973 [16 March 1972] 12403/72 Heading A4A A kettle of the lidless spout-filling type, comprises a body formed by an upper plastics moulding 20 and a stainless steel lower body portion 10 in which an electric heating element 14 is mounted, a pouring/filling spout 22 afforded by the body, bi-metallic control means for de-energizing the heating element, the control means being responsive to the presence of steam which is conveyed to the control means through a tube 18 having its upper end above the overflow level of the spout, and a generally tubular baffle 40 depending from the moulding 20, the baffle being provided with two lateral openings 68 and a rear slot 51 which enable steam to pass from within the kettle to the spout. The baffle 40 ensures that sufficient steam pressure is maintained in the kettle to cause steam to be conveyed through the tube 18 to the control means. The baffle 40 is substantially rectangular in plan and has flanges 41 secured to ribs (60), Fig.4 (not shown), depending from the moulding 20. The ribs (60) and further ribs (61), Fig. 4 (not shown), form steam guides which produce converging flows of steam from the two lateral openings 68 which combine with the flow of steam from the rear slot 51. Recesses 56 and an aperture 76 formed in the baffle assist circulation and agitation of the water. The baffle is provided with level-indicating tongues 53 and 55. The head 13 of the heating element 14 has a drain passage permitting the escape of condensed steam.
