1424475 Brassieres RAPID AMERICAN CORP 20 Feb 1973 [30 March 1972] 8370/73 Heading A3V A brassiere comprises breast cups 12, 14 joined together and dorsal panels 18, 20 each of which include a first trapezoidal segment 32 or 34 made of stretch material having its direction of greatest stretch 62 oriented horizontally when the brassiere is being worn, and a second triangular segment 36 or 38 joined between the edge 46 of the first segment and the side edge of the adjacent breast cup, the segments 36, 38 also being of stretch material but with the direction of greatest stretch 66 angularly oriented with respect to the horizontal (within the range 45‹ to 50‹) towards the top of the adjacent breast cup. The edge 46 is preferably an arcuate extension of the lower edge of the breast cup and the segments 32, 34 and 36, 38 are preferably of a power net material. An underbust elastic band 22 is also provided, but embodiments are also described wherein this band is replaced by a horizontally elastic binding strip sewn by zig-zag stitching to the lower edges of the first segments 32, 34. The breast cups 12, 14 are joined by a cloth section 92 and are provided with overlapping triangular members 76, 78 of power net material having one way stretch characteristics aligned angularly with respect to the horizontal and towards the top of the adjacent breast cup. The members 76, 78 and the section 92 may be replaced by two stretchable crescent members stitched together along the vertical medial line between the cups 12, 14 and defining a Y configuration therebetween.
