Description

Oct. ll, 1955 w. RosENTHAL BRASSIERE Filed Dec. 22, 1953 FIG. I
V EN TOR.
TTORNE'Y United States Patent O BRASSIERE William Rosenthal, Bayville, N. Y.
Application December 22, 1953, Serial No. 399,764
1 Claim. (Cl. 2-42) This invention relates to a brassiere.
It is an object of this invention to provide a brassiere having a plurality of elastic segments completely surrounding the breast cups.
It is a further object of this invention to provide a brassiere completely elastic even as to the side segments, with the exception of the breast receiving pockets.
These and other objects of this invention will become apparent upon reading the following disclosure taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawng in which:
Pig. l is a front view of the brassiere, and
Fig. 2 is a side view of the brassiere.
Referring to the drawing, the brassiere is divided into two frontal sections 1 and 2 by a medial line 3. Each of the frontal Sections 1 and 2 comprises an elastic longitudinal base segment 4 having a horizontal stretch along the longitudinal aXis.
The breast receiving pockets of the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 are of the arch type, preferably made of two non-stretchable sectional pieces 5 and 6. The nonstretchable piece 5 is provided with a pointed apex 7. The pieces 5 and 6 are sewn together along seam line 8 in spaced relation by a plurality of parallel disposed stitches. The seam line 8 is disposed approximately in the medial line bisecting the non-stretchable breast receivng pockets consisting of the segments 5 and 6. Outwardly disposed of the non-stretchable breast receiving pockets composed of segments 5 and 6 is disposed a stretchable segment 9. The direction of stretch of said segment 9 as well as all the other segments of the brassiere is shown by the plurality of finely drawn lines disposed in each of the segments.
Interiorly of said non-stretchable breast receiving pockets are disposed stretchable segments 10. The line of stretch of segments 9 and 10 is directed inwardly towards the apeX of the breast receiving pocket. The segments 9 and 10 as shown in Fig. 1 are sewn together over the non-stretchable section 5' above the apex 7 thereof. A support Strap 11 of conventional design is secured to each of sewn together segments 9 and 10 at an exterior edge thereof and above the apex 7.
As shown in Fig. 1 the interiorly disposed segment pieces 10 are sewn together along the medial line 3 and ICC the base longitudinal segment pieces 4 are also sewn together along the medial line 3.
Side panels 12 of horizontally stretchable material are secured to the exterior edge of panels 9 and to the exterior edge of the base segment 4 along seam line 13.
The tops of the longitudinal base segments 4 are convergingly curvatured toward the medial line 3. The base of the non-stretchable section 6 is secured to a portion of the top edge of the base longitudinal section 4.
It is thus apparent that the brassiere of this invention is stretchable along stress and strain lines so that the movements of the wearer are easily absorbed by the stretchable Sections of the brassiere, thereby providing a comfortable wearing brassiere.
While this invention has been described by means of an embodiment thereof, other embodiments will become obvious upon reading the descriptive disclosure herein, but all of these embodiments are deemed to be a part of the invention and embraced within the scope of the claim appearing hereinafter. The two side panels 9 constitute the back band and will be provided at their ends with suitable connecting elements (not shown) as will be understood by those skilled in the art.
This brassiere having a pocket surrounded by elastic material is particularly adapted for prenatal or maternity wear. The brassiere expands with expansion of the breasts. Simultaneously the non-elastic center of the pocket affects a firm non-elastic lifting to the breast disposed therein.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows:
A prenatal and maternity brassiere consisting of two back bands and two like cup Sections each of said cup Sections being secured at its outer edge to the inner edge of one of said back bands, the cup Sections being joined by a medan line of stitching, each cup section consisting of a relatively wide band of material at the base thereof, said band being longitudinally stretchable, two arched transversely stretchable relatively wide panels rising from the base band and joined at their apices, and a breast pocket of relatively non-stretchable material, said base band and panels forming a frame for said breast pocket, and said pocket consisting of two Sections seamed together and secured at their outer edges to the inner edges of said base band and arched panels, whereby the frame surrounding each breast pocket may, as a substantial whole, expand in accordance with increases in the breast of the wearer, while the breast pocket itself maintains its original contour and support.
