Abstract

1424156 Cable glands CHINA LIGHT & POWER CO 29 May 1974 23875/74 Heading H2E A cable gland 15 for supporting the stripped back end of an armoured cable comprises a cylindrical sleeve 1 and a flange 2 at and perpendicular to one end, therebeing two slots 4 in the sleeve, open at the end of the sleeve remote from the flange, opposite each other and inclined at 22¢ degrees with respect to the sleeve axis in the same sense. Fig. 9 shows the gland partly assembled on a cable which has an armour of two steel tapes 12 helically wound at 45 degrees to the cable, axis, the slots 4 having been guided over the wound-back ends of the tapes which have subsequently been folded back to overlie the outer side of the sleeve. Lead tape 17 is wrapped around the lead sheath 11 of the cable exposed by the wound back tapes 12. A collet 6, in two halves, is placed over the folded back ends of the tapes 12 and is held in place by a screw clamp (7). An outer sleeve (18) of irradiated polythene is applied over the end of the sleeve to form a seal between the sleeve and the cable. The flange 2 is bolted to a support 13.
