Abstract

142,392. Erickson, A. Jan. 29, 1919. Valve-gear; regulating.-Liquid fuel flows to the cylinder in predetermined charges, and without mixing with the comburant, from a reservoir 23 mounted on the engine cylinder, through an orifice 25 controlled periodically by the engine by means of a needle valve 26 or other device. The invention is shown in connexion with an engine of the Diesel or semi-Diesel type as described in Specification 142,188, in which the orifice 25 leads to the hollow stem 17 of a fuel valve 20 seated within the main air-admission valve 10, and the fuel is vaporized and ignited in a cavity 12 in the head of the valve. The valve-actuating mechanism and regulating-devices are as described in Specification 144,169.
