Abstract

1423918 Refractory mountings F P MERKLE JNR 15 Feb 1974 [28 Feb 1973] 6956/74 Heading F4B A mounting means for a suspended refractory shield for a furnace comprises a hollow hanger tube 10 suspended by lugs 11 and 12 from a support beam 13. The hanger tube is closed at the lower end 26 and has oblong openings 17 to 25 to receive metal hangers such as 27 and 28 that engage and hold refractory bricks. Cooling fluid that may be regulated by an adjustable vent, (47) Fig. 2 (not shown), is supplied through the end 15 and exits through openings 17 to 25, thus cooling the metal hangers and refractory shield. Shelves 37 and 38 can be mounted on the tube 10 to aid in distributing the weight of refractory bricks. A backing plate (42), Fig. 2 (not shown) pivotally mounted against a compression spring (43) may be fitted to accommodate thermal expansion of the refractory bricks.
