Abstract
897,749. Suspended ceilings; ceiling panels. STRAMAX A.G. June 24, 1959 [June 24, 1958], No. 21705/59. Classes 20(4) and 87(1) [Also in Groups XIII and XXV] The plates 2 of a sub-ceiling, heated or cooled by the pipes 3 which they conceal, Figs. 2, 5, and which support them, are hung so that at least some of the plates may be tilted and then detached for removal. The plates shown in Figs. 1 and 2, e.g. of plaster of Paris, mortar or stucco, reinforced with fibre, are in the form of trays, each with a middle, grooved ridge 7, the bottom of the tray, and the ridge, being covered by an aluminium sheet 8 with tongues anchored in the plate 2 and the bottom of the tray and sheet 8 having perforations leading to glass wool 16 contained in the tray and covered by a sheet 23 of kraftpaper. The plates may be without perforations, glass wool and the sheet 23 and they may be of metal faced with a thin, plaster layer or paint. A channel 12, with slots 11 so that it can be held by pins 10 on the ridge 7, forms with the ridgegroove a socket for the pipe 3 which allows the tilting, indicated in Fig. 2, for removal of the channel and plate when necessary. Normally the tilting is prevented by the presence of keys 14, Fig. 1, in grooves 13 formed in two opposite sides of each plate. The pipes 3 are suspended .from the ceiling by arrangements, Fig. 3 (not shown), each including a bolt and nut so that the height of the pipe can be adjusted. The ridge 7 may be offset to one side of the middle line, Fig. 4 (not shown), and the resulting tendency to tilt is prevented by an adjustable stop secured to the ceiling or to the plate. In Fig. 5, a simple plate 2 has an offset ridge 7 and the natural tilt is prevented by a bent extension 29 of the sheet 8 which clasps an extra pipe 3<SP>1</SP>. When tilted as indicated, against the natural tilt, the channel 12 is exposed for removal of the plate as before. If the grip of the bend 29 is made strong enough the ridge 7 can be made central and the pipes 3 and 3<SP>1</SP> equally spaced. In a still further embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), the sheet 8 has a bent extension similar to that 29 of Fig. 5, but in this case the extension clasps the pipe 3 and the pivotable support of the plate 2 is separate from that pipe. A hook of adjustable height is secured to the ceiling and links with an eye incorporated in the plate. For removal after tilting, the plate is unhooked or the hook is unscrewed from its ceiling attachment. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 690,271, 690,279, 690,320, 690,327 and 744,931.
