Abstract

1423558 Plywood KURARAY CO Ltd and KYO SANGYO CO Ltd 1 Aug 1973 [5 Aug 1972 2 Dec 1972] 36628/73 Heading B5L [Also in Division C3] Plywood may be manufactured by using as the adhesive for the various layers, a curable composition which comprises (1) an aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol, and (2) a hydrophobic solution of an isocyanate compound or polymer which contains two or more isocyanate groups per molecule. In addition, an aqueous emulsion of a vinyl acetate and/or butadiene polymer may also be present, as may other conventional fillers, thickeners and other adjuvants. In the examples, plywoods are made from three veneers of lauan wood, of varying thicknesses (1 mm. to 3 mm.), using the above adhesive, curing being effected by pressing.
