Abstract

1477486 Laminates HOECHST AG 24 May 1974 [26 May 1973] 23391/74 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] A plasticized P.V.C. substrate is bonded to itself or another substrate by applying, to either substrate, an adhesive composition, and bring- ing the surfaces together. The adhesive composition comprises (1) a polyurethane or nitrilerubber elastomer, (2) (a) an HMT-free novolak and/or (b) a halogenated hydrocarbon resin or a (vinyl chloride)/(vinyl acetate) copolymer, and (3) a solvent. The novolak is derived from a bisphenol, an alkyl- or cycloalkylphenol having #3 C atoms in the alkyl group, and/or an arylphenol, optionally mixed with #50% mole phenol and/or a (cyclo)alkyl phenol having 1 or 2 C atoms in the alkyl group. In Examples, diphenylolpropane and 2,6 - dimethylol - 4 - nonyl-phenol are referred to. The halogenated hydrocarbon resin may be e.g. chlorinated natural rubber or polypropylene. The solvent may be a ketone. The other substrates include e.g. polyurethane-based artificial leather, rubber leather, metals, textiles, wood, paper or cardboard.
