Abstract

PURPOSE: An adhesive for odorless plywood, suitable to an interior decoration material and a cupboard, having a long pot life with a very slight emission of formaldehyde, and comprising a water-soluble resorcinol resin and glyoxal as a curing agent.
CONSTITUTION: An adhesive comprising (A) a water-soluble resorcinol resin, e.g. resorcinol or tannin alone, or its mixture with (B) a resin emulsion, e.g. ethylene- vinyl acetate copolymer emulsion, and/or (C) a water-soluble high polymer, e.g. polyvinyl alcohol, and (D) glyoxal as a curing agent. Preferably, an emulsion which is slightly miscible with the resorcinol resin or the water-soluble high polymer is previously adjusted pH7.0 or higher with an alkaline substance, e.g. caustic soda or an amine, and used by extending with an extendes, e.g. wheat or walnut flour, and water.
