Abstract

142,154. Richards, T. E. Oct. 26, 1918. Roofs.-In erecting a hangar or like structure, the roof is assembled on the ground complete with the rafter trusses 1, 2, 3, 4 connected by the purlins 5, 6, 7 and ridge 8, and the whole is then lifted bodily by means of derricks 12, 13 at the four corners of the roof. A tension member 10 extending beneath the centre trusses is provided to resist bending. Posts 15, 16, 17 are next placed beneath the end trusses 1, 2, and posts 16 beneath the rear of the trusses 3, 4, the front being left clear. Rakers or struts 20 are then added. The erection derricks may form part of the permanent structure. In a, modification, the roof is assembled in longitudinal sections which are separately raised, supported, and then connected together. The compound members, of the trusses are connected together by junction fittings, which may be of the kind described in Specification 137,548.
