Abstract

142,139. Gr³bler, E. June 9, 1917, [Convention date]. Field carriages. - The rear driving-wheels of a tractor are arranged with a clearance between them enabling the wheels of a trailer, such as a gun carriage, to be placed between them and coupled thereto. The tractor comprises front wheels 1 supporting the motor &c. which drives a transverse shaft 6, Fig. 4, driving the rear wheels 2 supported on frame members 11 through chain gearing 4 arranged externally. A temporary axle 12, Fig. 3, may be fitted between the wheels 2, and is provided with flanges 12<a> fitting the wheel hubs, and arms 13 terminating in an eye 16 fitting over the hook 17. The axle 12 may be offset and fitted with auxiliary stay members to support a trailer such as a gun carriage having wheels of different diameter and gauge from the tractor wheels.
