Abstract

124,186. Fielder, R. E. March 9, 1918, [Convention date]. Axle structures.-Comprises a hollow transverse member 1 of square cross section and having a central enlargement 1<b> for the differential gear, and bracket members 2 which carry the road wheels and are fixed to the central member 1. The brackets are fitted with an inwardly directed boss 2b with a flange 2<c>, which is bolted to a mating flange 1<c> on the end of the transverse member. A second boss 2<e> takes a short axle 7 on which the wheel 3 is mounted, bearings 8, 9 being provided. The wheel is driven by means of an internal gear 11 in mesh with a pinion 12 on the driving axle 13. Flanges 15, 16 on the bracket member protect the wheel bearings 9 and gear 11 from dust &c. The wheel carries a brake band 17.
