Abstract

1,022,415. Motor wheels. BRITISH TRAILER CO. Ltd. Jan. 24, 1963 [Jan. 24, 1962], No. 2735/62. Heading B7H. Mechanically propelled vehicles-including trailers-having wheels mounted in pairs articulated for transverse tilting, have means for driving at least one of the wheels in each pair. As shown, a pair of wheels 10, 11 are mounted upon a shaft 20 mounted for transverse tilting upon a trunnion 19 carried by a bracket 18 mounted upon a pair of longitudinal leafsprings. Each wheel comprises a hub 21 supporting the wheel flange 24 and attached to a drum 23 within which is mounted an hydraulic motor 25, the pump for which is mounted on the chassis. A brake drum or disc may be attached to the wheel hub or drum, or an hydraulic plunger 26 may be included so that the power may be disconnected for freewheel effect unless braking effort is required.
