Abstract
1421021 Plate heat exchangers NIPPON-DENSO CO Ltd 19 Jan 1973 [31 Jan 1972 18 April 1972] 2929/73 Heading F4S In a heat exchanger incorporating a plurality of core units 2 disposed radially within a cylindrical housing 1 and used for heat exchange between air and exhaust gas from a turbine engine, each unit 2 comprises a plurality of spaced apart partition members 15 arranged to define alternate air and gas passages 17 and 18 within which are disposed corrugated fins 16a and 16b respectively. Radially spaced members 3 connect the core units 2 together, and expansible sealing means 10 and 11 permit the units 2 to expand longitudinally within the housing. Air to be heated supplied through the arcuate spaces 5 defined between the outer members 3 and the housing 1 enters the passages 17 in the units 2 through inlet regions 2a and passes in countercurrent relationship to the exhaust gas which enters the passages 18 in the units 2 by way of inlet regions 2c. The ends of the fins 16a, 16b are obliquely cut to provide inlet regions 2a, 2c of triangular form. Heated air and the exhaust gas are discharged through outlets 7 and 9 respectively. L-shaped sealing members 20 and 19 are provided to close the sides and ends of the air and gas passages 17 and 18. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 6-9, not shown), a single heat exchange unit (22) of annular form is disposed within the outer cylindrical housing (21), the partitions (29) defining the alternate passages for air and gas, in this case, being arranged radially around an inner cylindrical member (27).
