Abstract

1420359 Bagging machine C C VANDERPOOL 10 April 1973 [10 April 1972] 17263/73 Heading B8C [Also in Division B5] A semi-automatic machine enables an operator to apply a tubular web material over a garment on a hanger carried on a pivotable support and to actuate means for opening the end of the tubular web, and for sealing and cutting the web (see Division B5). As shown, the tubular web material, such as transparent polyethylene, is fed from a roll 36 to a webengaging section 24 where it is held open by suction bars (122, 132), Fig. 9 (not shown), enabling the operator to pull it downwards over the garment before he actuates heated prongs (134) and a knife (120) to form discrete seals across the web and cut it above the seals. The operator pulls the bag so formed further downwards over the garment until the hanger protrudes between the seals, the hanger being located on a pole 30 pivoted about an axis 40. The pole is then pivoted to a position 30<SP>11</SP> where the covered garment is released automatically on to a rail or other support, and the pole then pivoted back to a position 30<SP>1</SP> where the next garment is loaded automatically on to the pole and moved to the bagging position 30. The apparatus is controlled by electro-pneumatic circuitry described with reference to Fig. 25 (not shown).
