Abstract

141,981. Wellman Smith Owen Engineering Corporation, and Kemp, A. V. July 18, 1919. Double walls.-Walls or partitions, especially those of furnace regenerators, are constructed of tiles or slabs a, supported in parallel rows, and in such a manner that they break bond, between series or lines of retaining pieces b which are shaped at b<2> and b<3> to engage one with another at the ends. The retaining-pieces b are each provided with longitudinal flanges b<4> along both edges at one side, and a longitudinal flange b<5> along one edge at the other side, the space between one flange b<4> and the flange b<5> engaging with the upper edges of the tiles a. Juxtaposed walls are mutually supported by strut-pieces C, C<2> resting on the retaining-pieces b of the opposed walls, and if desired the strut-pieces C, C<2> may be laid continuously to form separate horizontal passages above and below the partition thus formed. The strut-pieces keep the tiles a against the flanges b<4> of the retaining pieces b, The meeting faces throughout the structure may be cemented.
