1419807 Steam turbine casings B B C BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 26 Nov 1973 [28 Nov 1972] 54709/73 Heading FIT A casing for a fluid-flow machine, as shown a steam turbine, and of double-shell construction includes an outer shell 1 having a two-part frame member 3, 4 supported vertically on friction plates 12, 30 on the foundations, and attached to columns 20 by pivotal bars 18, 19, to allow horizontal deformation of the frame and outer casing relative to the shaft gland assemblies 5 and fixed inner shell supports 6 incorporated in the frame. The columns 20 may be of steel or reinforced concrete. The supports 6 include an arm 25 fixed to the foundation, and a cantilever bracket 24, or may be mounted on the foundation by bars similar to those at 18, 19. Further bars could be incorporated, e.g. to support the steam exhaust flange 9 instead of frame member 4. The bars need not lie in parallel planes.
