Abstract

1340795 Electric generator mountings BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 24 July 1972 [26 July 1971] 34469/72 Heading H2A [Also in Divisions F1 and F2] The supporting pedestals 2 of a rotary machine are secured to the foundation 11 by tie bolts 15 which project vertically with clearance through an intermediate plate 8 and the pedestals 2 to transmit upward vertical forces on the pedestals directly to the foundation. The machine may be, e.g. a steam or gas turbine, compressor or electric generator. The pedestals 2 support the bearings of rotor shaft 1 and feet 4, 5 projecting from the upper and lower portions respectively of machine casing 6, feet 5 being held in position by covers 7. Keys 9, 10 allow guided expansion of each pedestal 2 on its intermediate plate 8, forces acting on the latter in the horizontal plane being transferred to keys 13, 14 in the concrete or steel foundation 11. Plate 8 rests on levelling spacers 12. The tie bolt nuts 16 are each provided with two packing washers 17, 18 having respectively convex and concave profiles at their contact surfaces to compensate for misalignment. Washers 17, 18 may have annular middle portions which can be made to collapse to facilitate disassembly.
