Stamps, ore and like.- The cam shaft 9, Fig. 1, of a stamp battery for pulverizing ores and comminuting other materials is supported at intermediate points or between the cams 11 in auxiliary bearings 19 carried by, or formed in one with, an horizontal girder 13 bolted to the king posts 1, 2, 3 of the mill. The bearings 19 preferably extend nearly the full width of the cam shaft between the bosses of contiguous cams. The main end bearings 15, 16 and the central intermediate bearing 17 may be formed in one with the girder 13, or constructed as separate parts. The girder 13, Fig. 3, is recessed at the back to receive the lower guide blocks 20 for the stamp stems. Fig. 4 shows the concrete foundations 23 at each side of each mortar box 5 carried up above the tops of the boxes, and supporting a metal frame comprising two horizontal members 25, 26 and three vertical members 27, 28, 29, wooden or other cushion blocks 30 being interposed between the extensions 24 and the frame. The horizontal and vertical members are preferably cast in one piece, and the main and auxiliary bearings made integral with the members. The upper and lower guide-blocks are bolted to the horizontal members, and the bearings for the jack shaft are carried by the vertical members.
