Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the control capacity of a roll crown shape and to extend a bearing service life as well by providing two pieces each respectively of journal boxes supporting both shaft parts of the rolls giving a horizontal roll bending and vertical roll bending. CONSTITUTION:The horizontal bending load acting on a upper small diameter work roll 1 at rolling time is transferred to the housing 10 of a rolling mill via a block 12 from one side face 8a of an inner journal box 8. The vertical load acting on the upper small diameter work roll 1 is transferred to the housing 10 via the journal box from an upper backup roll 3. In this case the horizontal bending load is supported on the inner journal box 8 and the vertical bending load is supported on an outer journal box 9, hence a large load does not act on one bearing. Consequently the service life of the bearing inside the journal box becomes of a long period.
