Abstract

1419489 Electric timepieces J M B MARTIN 14 March 1973 [14 Dec 1971] 44027/71 Heading G3T To permit setting of an electrically driven timepiece enclosed in a hermetically sealed case 3, 4, one or more photo-sensitive devices which can modify the action of the means driving the time display are located in the case adjacent corresponding sealed window(s) e.g. 8, and a means such as a rotatable back part 9 with an aperture 12 is provided to allow selective illumination of the window(s). As shown the photo-sensitive devices are incorporated in an integrated circuit chip 14 and light is fed thereto via light guides such as 13. The display uses hands 15 driven by a stepping motor 16 which receives pulses from a quartz crystal or tuning fork oscillator 21 via frequency divider stages 23-29. Alternatively a digital liquid crystal or 1. e. d. display may be used. If the watch is slow, exposure of photo-sensitive device 33 by-passes some of the divider stages; if the watch is fast, device 34 can be exposed to arrest the display. A further device 35 can reverse the direction of display drive, and a device 36 with gate circuitry 37 can zero the display to permit use as a stop-watch.
