Abstract

1462898 Electronic watches ZENITH RADIO CORP 18 Dec 1974 [14 Jan 1974] 54646/74 Heading G3T In a watch having a stepping motor 32 which receives pulses, e.g. from a quartz crystal oscillator 24, and drives minute and hour hands 33, 34, a two-digit electro-optical display 18 is energized via control circuitry 54 and a manually operable demand switch 66 to display a further timedependent function such as seconds or the date. The motor 32 thus receives only one pulse per minute and energization of the display 18, which is of l.e.d. type, is arranged to illuminate the hands. The display 18 may alternatively be of liquid crystal type. In the watch shown the display 18 is used for the date and an intermittently flashing marker 64 shows the seconds. Two cells 20, 22 of different size are connected in series to provide sufficient voltage for the l.e.d. display, and the larger cell 20 alone supplies the circuitry. The motor 32 may be pulsed from the cell 20 or both cells. The circuitry 54, divider 26, and counters 28, 55 are combined in an I.C. 57'.
