Abstract
1418360 Moving coil transducers PALLEFINN BEER 19 June 1973 [20 June 1972] 29034/73 Heading H4J Electroacoustic transducer, e.g. a loudspeaker, microphone, or earphone, has a permanent magnet 20 having on one face one pole N surrounded by another pole S of opposite polarity, with a transitional surface region 28 separating the poles, and a flexible diaphragm 11 of non-magnetic non-conducting material supported by its periphery adjacent the one face of the magnet and carrying a flexible current conductor 30 formed as a number of spiral convolutions on the zone of the diaphragm confronting the transitional surface region 28 of the magnet. Preferably the magnet has a number of circular concentric poles, forming a plurality of transition regions 28, and the diaphragm has a similar plurality of regions of spiral convolutions each confronting a respective transition zone of the magnet surface and each region having a direction of convolution reversed with respect to the concentric adjacent regions of convolutions. The transducer has a magnet 20 on each side of the diaphragm 11, each provided with congruent poles of similar polarity, and each having exponential horn shaped apertures 27 extending therethrough. The magnets can be of plastics bonded barium ferrite or cobalt rare earth magnet material. The diaphragm 11 is of polyester plastics, is formed with concentric circular corrugations, and is held at its centre 18 by a bolt 23 which forms one of the coil terminals.
