Abstract

1416065 Vehicle lighting systems@ FORD MOTOR CO Ltd. 18 April 1973 18600/73 Heading F4R A motor vehicle lighting system comprises: (a) two headlamps which are adapted to project full beams in a direction suitable for driving along a highway, with no oncoming traffic, said beams being of a first intensity; (b) two headlamps which are adapted to project dipped beams in a direction suitable for driving along a highway with oncoming traffic, said beams being of a second intensity less than the first intensity; (c) two lamps which are adapted to project town beams of a third intensity less than the second intensity;, and (d) two lamps which are adapted to project parking beams of a fourth intensity less than the third intensity. Preferably the headlamps of (a) and (b) are the same headlamps and the lamps of (c) and (d) are the same lamps: alternatively, all four kinds of lamp may be combined or (a), (b) and (c) may be combined leaving- the (d) lamps separate. In each case each of the beams is produced by a separate filament. The lamps are controlled by a lighting switch having a first- "on" position, in which power is supplied to the town or parking lamps, and a second "on" position, in which power is also supplied to the full. beam or dipped beam lamps according to thesetting of a conventional dip switch. The ignition switch of the vehicle controls a relayoperated switch so that power is supplied to the town lamps when the engine is running and to the parking lamps when the engine is off.
