Abstract
141,504. Wallis, F. J. Aug. 23, 1919. Soldering and brazing.-In a machine for soldering or brazing ornamental heads on nails, metal buttons, military ornaments, and like articles, the articles are carried by one or more disks intermittently rotated over a stationary gapped table, and the solder &c. is fused by a blowpipe, the gasinlet tap of which is operated automatically. The nail heads d are carried in an apertured disk c with their ends resting on the table a, and the stems f pass through guides in the disk e. These disks are mounted on a spindle b which is intermittently rotated through a star-wheel h by a projection j on a shaft k operated by worm gear l from a belt-driven or other pulley. The shaft b also carries a second star-wheel i which operates a spring-retracted lever m for closing the plug of a gas-cock n for controlling the supply of gas to a blowpipe nozzle o. The soldering-material is applied either before or after the heads have been inserted in the machine and at the required location, and the disks rotated to a position opposite the nozzle o, where the solder is melted while the work is stationary. During the next motion of the disks, the supply of gas is cut off, the air which is admitted from a fan or compressor to the nozzle through the pipe p cooling the solder. The gas is then re-admitted and is ignited by a pilot frame. The finished articles are discharged through a gap in the table.
