Abstract
244,523. Hendrick, C. F. Sept. 18, 1924. Grant of Patent refused. Coating.-Ferrous metals are protected against corrosion by traversing over the surface an intensely hot flame for a period of time just sufficiently long to produce a skin-deep fusion without materially affecting the bulk of the metal and substantially simultaneously feeding a protective non-ferrous metal or alloy, such as copper, tin, brass, &c., in finely divided or strip form, at such a rate that at becomes diffused in molten form in or on the skin-deep fused layer of the ferrous metal. The applied metal &c. may be fed into the flame of an oxy-acetylene blowpipe, being induced into the stream of combustible gases or driven by a separate stream of gas or compressed air, or separately to the metal surface by a sprayer. In the former case the supply of the coating metal may be regulated. Separately from or in admixture with the coating metal a suitable flux may be used. Specification 15774/92 is referred to.
