Abstract

494,379. Coating with metals. SOC. ANON. DES MANUFACTURES DES GLACES ET PRODUITS CHIMIQUES DE ST. GOBAIN, CHAUNY, & CIREY. Dec. 29, 1937, Nos. 35978 and 35979. Convention dates, Dec. 29, 1936 and Feb. 19, 1937. [Class 82 (ii)] A metallic coating, e.g. of silver, is formed on a glass or other non-metallic surface by means of a mixture of two jets of solutions, one containing a salt of the metal to be deposited and the other being a reducing solution, the solutions being atomized separately and simultaneously by the action of steam or heated gas, e.g. heated air or nitrogen. An additional jet of steam or heated gas may be blown into the atomized mixture. The salt solution and reducing solution are carried by pipes 1, 1<1> and are atomized by nozzles 4, 4<1> supplied with steam or heated gas by a pipe 2, the nozzles being angularly disposed so that the resulting jets mix. The object to be coated is placed in the zone of mixture and the mixture is preferably acted on by a blast of steam or heated gas, preferably reducing gas, from nozzles 5, 51 supplied by a pipe 6. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a modification in which the pipes 1, 1<1> are placed face to face and a single nozzle, connected to a steam or heated gas supply, is used for atomizing both solutions. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
