Abstract

1414249 Vacuum packaging G BEGHINI 25 Oct 1973 49815/73 Heading B8T A vacuum sealable lid assembly of moulded plastics material comprises a main part 1 with a peripheral skirt 2 having an inwardly projecting bead 3 securing the assembly to the container B. A central valve opening 5 receives a valve member 6 hingedly connected to the lid. When the member 6 is positioned in opening 5, a tongue 7 is received in recess 8 and a gripping tab 9 is received in recess 10. Two internal peripheral lips 11, 12 on the main part 1 engage with the container B. Opening 5 has an axially directed lip 13 at its base and a lip 14 substantially perpendicular to lip 13, and is inwardly covered by a perforated bowl 15. When a vacuum has been established in the container the valve member 6 plugs the opening 5 and sealingly engages lips 13, 14. In other embodiments the bead 3 is replaced by a screw-thread, or omitted.
