Abstract
1413202 Lowering loads INTERCONTINENTAL CORP 22 Jan 1973 3133/73 Heading B8B [Also in Division F2] A load approximately positioned by a motordriven hoist is finely positioned by an hydraulic adjusting link 16, suspended at 18 from the hoist cable and supporting the load at 20. The link 16 comprises a piston-and-cylinder arrangement, the load hook 20 being coupled to the end of a rod 36 of a piston 38, and the cylinder being coupled to the suspension hook 18, the piston 38 being in its upper position (shown) during rough hoisting. For fine movements of the load, a valve 26 is either directly or remotely operated to permit the passage of fluid through channels 44, 46 from below to above the piston due to the load on the hook 20. The piston and hook is returned to its upper position either by return springs or by applying an external force to the hook 20, check valves 50 in the piston 38 permitting fluid flow from above to below the piston. The fluid pressure in the link 16 corresponding to the load being carried is indicated on a gauge 56 and an overload pressure switch 60 de-energizes the hoist motor upon overload.
