Abstract

Auxiliary equipment is for the extra-slow lowering of heavy loads, being used on construction sites etc between the crane hook and the load. It comprises a long-stroke lowering cylinder and a back-pressure cylinder of at least the same stroke, the axis of both being parallel to the direction of the lifting force. These are mounted between top and bottom plates (8,9) and connected together at one end by passages (10,11) in the bottom plate (9) controlled by valves (12). A piston (4) with rod (5) coupled to a load-supporting hook etc (6) works in the lowering cylinder, and the space between the piston and the passage containing the valve is filled with fluid. There is a free piston (15) in each back-pressure cylinder, the fluid acting against its underside, while the space above it (17) is filled with compressed gas. The valve is a hydraulic metering valve with fine adjustment, shutting automatically and controllable from a remote point.
