Abstract

1422042 Lowering apparatus N H AHLGREN 3 Jan 1973 [12 Jan 1972] 361/73 Heading B8B [Also in Division F1] In a method of lowering a load step-by-step by means of an hydraulic assembly comprising two piston and cylinder units 31, 32 each with a closed end to define a pressure medium side of the piston, which sides may be connected through a throttle valve 37 or directly under the control of valves V1, V2, the direct connection including a separate chamber 35, the valves V1, V2 are operated in the sequence illustrated to control the lowering of the load (not shown) suspended from a threaded rod 8 with supporting nuts 9, 10 threaded thereon and co-operating with the respective pistons 33, 34 of the units 31, 32. Fully loaded nuts are shown shaded, unloaded nuts are shown blank and nuts sharing the load are half-shaded. In a modification, Figs. 2a to 2g (not shown), three sets of pairs of piston and cylinder assemblies 31, 32 are further connected to a common system to ensure uniform lowering of the load attached to the rods 8. The valves are sequentially operated so that the lowering proceeds in steps each one-third of the stroke length. In a further modification, Figs. 3a to 3d (not shown), the nuts 9, 10 are replaced by gripping devices and the rod 8 may be a rope.
