Abstract

1340190 Stage scenery movement HYDRA FLOAT STAGE SYSTEMS Inc 18 Dec 1970 [18 Dec 1969] 60314/70 Heading A6M [Also in Division B8] Theatrical stage scenery is raised and lowered by means of pressure fluid responsive actuators, comprising cable cylinders 20, one such cylinder controlling each batten 12 from which the scenery is suspended. The cables 14 supporting a batten 12 extend over loftblocks 16 and then over a multiple sheave pulley of a single headblock 18 from which they extend to a cleat 24 affixed to the cable 26 of the cable cylinder 20. This cable 26 runs in a loop from one side of a piston in the cylinder 20, through seals in the ends of the cylinder, to the other side. Thus fluid, applied under pressure to the ends of the cylinder, can move the. piston in one way or the other and so raise or lower the batten 12. The fluid is supplied, in one embodiment, through counterbalance valves which have a preselected release threshold, so that the batten may be held raised with no pressure being applied to the valves, the fluid preferably being hydraulic and supplied from one of a number of remote control stations each having a pump unit and a pulse generator coupled thereto which gives an indication to the operator of the speed and position of the batten. An alternative embodiment has a proportional control valve and a pulse generator associated with each cylinder.
