Abstract

1412505 Variable-speed gearing CENTRALNE BIURO TECHNICZNE PRZEMYSU MASZYN WIOKIENNICZYCH 24 Sept 1973 [25 Sept 1972] 44607/73 Heading F2D Transmission gearing with means acting automatically to adjust the transmission ratio in response to variations in torque demand at the output so as to maintain constant tension in material being wound on to a winding drum comprises an input shaft 19 driving a cone member 20, an intermediate shaft 27 driven by a cone member 24, balls 22 the inclination of whose axes 23 may be varied by an angularly adjustable, spirally grooved, disc 14, a slippable drive connection comprising crown cams 1 between the intermediate shaft and a sun wheel 28 of planetary gearing 16 a planet carrier 32 of which is connected to the output shaft 3, and a weight-biased connection between the crown cam 1 driven by the intermediate shaft and the disc 14 whereby relative angular movement between the two crown cams adjusts the disc 14 to vary the transmission ratio. In the embodiment shown the sun wheel 28 meshes with wheels 29 rotatable about fixed axes, a ring gear 30 meshes with the wheels 29 and with planetary wheels 31 on the carrier 32, and a second sun wheel 21 driven directly by the input shaft 19 meshes with the planetary wheels 31. Increased torque on the output shaft causes relative angular movement between the crown cams 1, separated by balls 2, with consequent leftward movement of the cam driven by the intermediate shaft 27 and deflection of a lever 4 about a pivot 26. Such deflection of the lever 4, acting through a roller 5 and cam 6 rotates a shaft 7 carrying a weighted lever 8 and a gear wheel 10 which, through a pinion 11 and bevel gearing 12, 13, adjusts the disc 14. In a modification the sun wheel 21 driven by the input shaft and the pinions 29 are dispensed with, and the planetary wheels on the carrier mesh with a fixed ring gear and with the sun wheel driven by the crown cams 1.
