Abstract

1411335 Automatic control of speed GILLETTE CO 11 Dec 1973 [17 Jan 1973] 2350/73 Heading G3R In a shaver with a motor driven cutter, the motor is controlled to a speed substantially independent of the load on the cutter. As shown, the motor Rm forms part of a bridge circuit Rm R 1 R3 R4 with a supply U e.g. a battery across one diagonal. The motor is switched on or off by switching transistors TSI to TSIII according to whether the motor speed dependent voltage across diagonal AB of the bridge is below or above a threshold value as determined by the bridge components, to regulate the motor speed to a desired value that is independent of the motor load and supply voltage. Resistor R 1 may be replaced by a fixed voltage supply, and the cutter resiliently mounted in the shaver with the threshold value at a speed dependent upon the resonant frequency of the cutter. The circuit may be modified Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) so that the threshold value is above or below the desired motor speed.
